NFF boss denies Vincent Enyeama a World Cup chance

Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick may be denying former Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, the chance to feature in the coming World Cup in Russia.

There have been pressures and calls on Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, to include Enyeama in his squad ahead of the Mundial this summer after first-choice keeper Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with acute leukaemia last year.

Rohr  has since kept faith with young Deportivo La Coruna keeper Francis Uzoho, Enyimba star Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Chippa United shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi, but unconvincing displays in recent games have led the German coach turn to out-of-favour shot-stopper Vincent Enyeama.

But in an interview Thursday, Pinnick said Rohr would decide if he wants the France-based keeper, who has yet to  feature for Les Dogues since he returned from a knee injury  five months ago.

“All the other goalkeepers deserve to be in posts (for the World Cup), (Francis) Uzoho, for one, is  doing well,” SCORENigeria quoted the  NFF boss as saying  in a television interview.

“This could well be the big break for one of the other goalkeepers. But in the end it’s Rohr’s call to invite Enyeama, it’s his own responsibility.”

The NFF boss said goalkeeping coach Alloy Agu would  be in South Africa to train the much-vilified Akpeyi.

“Alloy Agu is on his way to train Akpeyi at Chippa United. The other trainer (Pionetti) is in Spain with  Uzoho on special permission of his club. We also expect such for Dele Alampasu and Ezenwa.” Amaju Pinnick had said.
