Ganduje Denies Donating N10m To EFCC, ICPC

Hours after announcing the donation of N10 million to the upcoming National Anti-corruption Marathon tournament, the Kano State government has denied the report.

Recall that the state government, in a statement, had announced the donation of N10 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, and Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN, who are the organizers of the anti-corruption marathon tournament.

However, in another statement by Aminu Yassar, the Director-General, Media and Publicity to the governor at the wee hours of Tuesday, the governor denied the report, saying that the money was donated to the Fair Play Sports International Agency, who, according to him, is the organizer of the tournament.

The governor, therefore, described the report as false, mischievous and a misrepresentation of the Press Release issued earlier on by his office.

According to him, Fair Play Sports is a private entity that organized the marathon with EFCC, ICPC, AFN, National Olympic Committee and other anti-corruption stakeholders as partners.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Kano state government did not and does not intend to contribute money to EFCC, ICPC or any other anti- corruption agency for any reason whatsoever”.

Similarly, in a swift reaction, the EFCC, through its spokesman, Tony Orilade, distanced itself from receiving any donation from the state governor, saying the commission does not receive donations from governors /government.
