Davido wins best International Act at the 2018 BET Awards


Nigerian singer, Davido won the best international act at the 2018 BET Awards  on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at an event which held at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The Pop singer who condoned with D’banj who just lost his 13-month old son, and thanked him for giving African artists a global platform, knocked off fellow nominees, Tiwa Savage, Booba(France), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Dadju (France), Distruction Boyz (South Africa), Fally Ipupa (DR Congo), J Hus (UK), Niska (France), Stefflon Don (UK) and Stormzy(UK) to win the coveted award.

Davido’s whose album will be dropping this year, also told big names collaborate with him, specifically mentioning J.Cole. Halfway through his award speech, he got quite emotional and also talked about the impact of African culture on the world and asked people to come to Africa to eat the food and enjoy the culture.

This is the second time Davido will be going home with the Best International Act Award. In 2015 when he won the award, he described the African category of the Best International Act as one of the toughest category in the awards show as it encompasses a continent.

“When I was hanging out with the other nominees before the awards in (Los Angeles), I never thought I would win because I have worked with almost everyone on that nomination list, and they are amazing artists,” Davido revealed to reporters.

Ice Prince had won the award one year earlier and praised Davido for putting in work this year and taking the award back to Nigeria.

Ice Prince said: “I was really excited when I heard them call Davido’s name. He is a really talented artist and it’s encouraging to see African artists being recognised for their hard work
