EFCC jails Senator Jonah Jang in Jos ahead of court appearance

Former governor of Plateau State and current senator representing Plateau North in the Senate, Senator Jonah Jang has been reportedly remanded in a police cell in Jos ahead of his arraignment in court on May 16 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Jang is expected to be arraigned before Justice Daniel Longji of the State High court V on a 12-count charge of alleged corruption and misappropriation of N6.3 billion during the last leg of his tenure as governor of Plateau State.

Daily Trust reported that a source said Jang is presently at a cell in the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and police presence have been beefed up around the area.

He said several police officers have been recalled to the state CID for fear that demonstrators may invade the place adding that:

“…his son Yakubu escorted him and his wife has just visited to give him food.”

When state police public relations officer, ASP Tyopev Terna was contacted, he said he could not comment on the issue.

It had earlier been reported that just after Justice Daniel Longji of the state high court V fixed Wednesday, May 15, for proper arraignment and hearing for bail application, young loyalists to Jang, began serious protest against what they referred to as a “witch hunt” by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.
